I’m going to try and keep this short and sweet. I have always loved making and eating desserts so I thought about turning it into a small business. In early August 2014, recipes were being tested and calculated for cost. I had my branding vision and retailers in mind. Then, as kitchen rental space was being discussed, I started thinking really hard about the amount of time I had to dedicate to a food business. Since I have three children under three, I decided that now was not the right time. I have to admit that I got a little mopey about putting my idea aside. However, I continued reading about startups and discovering small businesses online, focusing on those founded by people making things that they love by hand. The more businesses and personal stories I found, the more I wanted to see the products and meet their creators, both local and beyond.


At the end of August 2014, I was in the bathroom (where I seem to get most of my ideas, minus three children, of course) and came up with the idea for this blog. The thought behind Thinking Smaller is simply to share unique products made in small batches by people who are passionate about what they do. I hope this blog shows you some interesting things that you may not have found on your own and inspires you to do more of what you love.
